“Sweet Cakes by Melissa” sends custom cakes to ten LGBT organizations, saying they really do love homosexuals
The “Sweet Cakes by Melissa” bakery owners would like the LGBT community to know they love them, they really do!
If you remember, the Oregon bakers have been in the media spotlight since they refused to make a wedding cake for a lesbian couple back in 2013.
Melissa and Aaron Klein sent ten custom made cakes to LGBT organizations around the country with the words, “We Do Really Love You” written in icing on top.
The organizations which received the cakes were: California LGBT Arts Alliance, Asian and Pacific Islander Wellness Center, Californians Against Hate, CFAC Headquarters, Equality California, Out and Equal, The South Bay LGBT Community Organisation, The LGBTQ Center Long Beach, Los Angeles LGBT Center McDonald/Wright Building and LGBT of Southern Nevada.
Along with the sweet peace offerings, the bakers included a movie titled “Audacity” written and produced by evangelist Ray Comfort.
The film examines what happens when a comedian is urged to perform at a night club, but must decide whether to defend his stance on homosexuality or possibly lose a friendship.
The film promises that whatever your views on homosexuality, you will gain insight and perspective on the matter.
The film’s director was moved by the couple when they decided to hold firm to their beliefs and after they were fined $135,000, he wanted to come to their defense, saying he, the Klein’s and others who believe as they do are not the enemy.
Comfort then approached the pastry makers to suggest baking cakes for LGBT organizations and including a copy of his video. Melissa loved the proposal.
“The idea of sending cakes was suggested to me by a Los Angeles filmmaker, as a gesture of love for homosexuals,” she said. “My husband and I have been vilified as being hateful, but we don’t hate anyone, let alone gay people.”
Along with each cake, and a copy of Comfort’s movie, the gift package also includes a letter from the family on behalf of Christians everywhere:
“Enclosed is an award-winning movie that further expresses our feelings. I would be honored if you would watch it (it’s also freely available online ataudacitymovie.com).
“One viewer commented: ‘I have to say, as a gay woman who watched Audacity, I agree that the topic was handled with love and compassion, which was refreshing to see … the message was clear (even if it was one I disagreed with as an atheist).’
“On behalf of Christians, we want you to know that we do love you, and we are not your enemy (America is about freedom, and freedom for everyone).”
The Klein’s were found guilty of discrimination by the Bureau of Labor and Industries back in July for refusing to bake a wedding cake for engaged, same-sex couple Laurel and Rachel Bowman-Cryer.
