SDGLN’s own Jim Winsor is known for being out and about in Hillcrest at any given time of day.
Today, he happened to be in the vicinity of University Avenue, specifically at the storefront of eatery Lava Sushi where he snapped the picture to the left of an eviction notice taped to the entrance.
Apparently, in yet another casualty of recent closures and dispossessions, Lava Sushi has joined the ever-growing list of failing Hillcrest businesses.
In September, popular fetish and adult toy market The Crypt faced a similar fate as property owners demanded over $12,000 in late rent.
That establishment has never re-opened.
Lava Sushi was apparently trying to stay above water. In October the restaurant added a tantalizing new menu and boasted a re-invigorated sound system with brand-new lighting.
The contemporary Japanese eatery is patronized by many in Hillcrest, especially those who want to have an early snack before they head out into the community for a night.
SDGLN has reached out to the owners of Lava Sushi, but as of yet haven’t received a response.
