A Lestat's Coffee House may be opening in Hillcrest owner says

Rumors are abounding that the highly popular Coffee House Lestat’s is going to be opening a location in Hillcrest. The proposed spot would replace the now defunct Lava Sushi at 1045 University Avenue.

San Diego Gay and Lesbian News reached out to owners John Husler and Jamie Gerkowski and asked if the rumors were true.

Husler said yes, he would like to move into that location but he is only in the negotiation process, and that more information will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Hustler and Gerkowski are currently in New Orleans celebrating their Anniversary.

Lestat's is a highly popular coffeehouse with locations on Adams Avenue and Park Boulevard. The Adams Avenue location also has a music venue which hosts popular bands both local and traveling.

Although Husler doesn’t think the Hillcrest location is right for a stage, he said he plans to have poetry and some musical entertainment if it were to open.

He adds that if negotiations are successful and Lestat's moves into University Avenue, it won’t be a 24 hour establishment at first, but hopes that eventually it will become one.

With its unique style and Victorian appeal, Lestat's has remained in business for many years. And considering the Adams Avenue location sits right across the street from a Starbucks, Lestat's longevity is quite a testament to the lasting loyalty of the community.
