San Diego Eater reports that the recently vacated Canadian comfort food spot Mess Royale, will be replaced by an Italian seafood restaurant.
Clandestino hopes to be ready for customers at the end of the month upon finalization of some minor renovations.
Proprietor Fabrizio Facchini is no stranger to the hospitality business, he wants to bring the success of his restaurant and hotel in Italy to the diverse neighborhood of Hillcrest.
According to The Eater, Clandestino will offer a relaxed dining room with a serene littoral influence.
Using local resources, Facchini will comprise his menu with traditional Italian items such as seafood-stuffed pasta, fresh octopus and lobster burgers served on squid ink infused buns.
Restaurant realtor Mike Spilky of Location Matters, was disappointed that Mess Royale could not maintain a solid hold in the neighborhood, but is confident that Facchini will not only flourish, but may also bring more than one idea to San Diego.
"Fabrizio's concept combined with his overall passion for the business will give the new restaurant a much better shot at sustaining longevity in this location," said Spilky. "I believe he may have what it takes to bring multiple restaurants to San Diego."
Clandestino will be located at 142 University Ave, San Diego, CA 92103
