Airport exclusive ride-sharing service 'Wingz' debuts in San Diego

A new app based ride-sharing service named Wingz makes its way to San Diego today. This one is exclusively for the traveler trying to get to and from Lindbergh Field.

Wingz doesn’t stray far from the e-transport interface, you still need to download the app or go online and schedule a ride, however the service offers a flat rate upon booking, and you can even ask for the same driver to pick you up upon your return. These are features CEO Chris Brandon says will take some of the stress out of planning a getaway.

“Travelers have enough to worry about,” Brandon said, “getting to or from the airport shouldn’t be one of those worries. We’ve taken the hassle out of airport transportation. You simply schedule the date and time, and we’ll secure the right driver for you at a flat rate, with no surprises. We’re excited to be in San Diego and deliver a seamless, personal transportation experience for travelers in ‘America’s Finest City.’”

San Diego International Airport Director of Ground Transportation, David J. Boenitz, endorses the company, saying the service will only compliment street access to and from the busy curbside.

“We are proud to team up with Wingz and expand our ground transportation offerings for travelers here at San Diego International Airport,” Boenitz said. “Wingz has a strong commitment to customer service, making the company an ideal partner as we strive to enhance the airport experience for all of our visitors.”

The one thing that Wingz offers that other peer-to-peer services don’t is the ability to pre-book a ride. Also, passengers are guaranteed a flat-rate based on their location and number in their party. Wingz says the price is not an estimate and won’t change over the duration of the trip even if there is an "alien invasion."

The company also says they pick their local drivers very meticulously and train them, getting thorough background checks and vehicle inspections. They also provide their drivers with $1 million in liability insurance.

The company already has service available in Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Francisco, Sacramento and Seattle.

The average fare is about $25-$31 one-way, with up to three passengers depending on where you live, with one carry-on each. If it is your first time using the service you can take $5 off.
