Los Angeles man arrested for murder: killing son because he was gay.
SAN FERNANDO, Ca - A Los Angeles man was arrested on Friday for killing his son; 29-year-old Amir Issa. It’s being reported that the motive behind the incident was that the victim was gay.
The Los Angeles Police Department announced that Shehada Khalil Issa, 69, the victim's father, was charged with premeditated murder on April 1.
Prosecutors in the case say that senior Issa used a shotgun to kill his son, and that this wasn’t the first time that he threatened to do so. Reports say that there had been tensions in the relationship prior surrounding the son's orientation.
“The murder was committed because of the victim’s sexual orientation,” prosecutors said, “and because of the defendant’s perception of that status and the victim’s association with a person and a group of that status.”
The shooting happened on March 29, outside the family home in San Fernando Valley.
Police arrived to find two victims; the alleged assailant’s wife who had been stabbed to death inside the house, and his son shot outside.
The Daily News reports that Issa said that he killed his son in self-defense, having found his wife’s body in the home, he says he was then confronted by Amir with a knife and so he shot him.
Issa is being held without bail, with an arraignment scheduled for Monday, April 11.
If found guilty Issa could face a life sentence without parole.
