A Sacramento Baptist preacher has been less than sympathetic to the 49 lives lost and 53 injured who fell to the lone gunman in the Orlando massacre.

Now there is a petition to remove him from the church in which he asked church goers at his Sunday sermon, “Are you sad that 50 pedophiles were killed today? Um no, I think that’s great! I think that helps society. I think Orlando, Florida, is a little safer tonight.”

Pastor Roger Jimenez is a member of the Verity Baptist Church, where on Sunday, the day of the attacks, he applauded the gunman, asking why the perish should mourn the deaths, “of these 50 vile, perverted predators.”

Going further, Jimenez said that the victims deserved it.

“All I’m saying is that when people die who deserve to die, it’s not a tragedy,” he said per the Sacramento Bee. “There’s no tragedy. I wish the government would round them all up, put them up against a firing wall, put a firing squad in front of them, and blow their brains out.”

The petition needs 7,500 signatures to be delivered to State Senator Joel Anderson. As of this writing it has garnered 5,593.
