Transgender woman attacked with hammer in New York

New York – A transgender woman was attacked with a hammer while walking down 67th Street in Woodside, Queens on Wednesday morning.

ABC 7 News (WABC) is reporting that police are treating the incident as a possible hate crime.

The victim says that just before being hit in the head with the object, the assailant yelled, “This what you get for being gay!”

The un-named victim was treated for serious head injuries at a local hospital then released.

The alleged suspect in the case is still at large.

There have been at least twenty murders of transgender people so far in 2016. The primary targets being transgender women of color.
