An 18-year-old Stockton teen was arrested on Monday for his part in a paintball attack which injured two people in a gay nightclub on the same night as the Orlando massacre.

Austin Richardson was booked into the San Joaquin County jail, charged with carrying out a hate crime and assault with a deadly weapon.

Richardson and two other teens, Branden Staples, 19, and another unidentified 16-year-old male opened fire at the Paradise Club in North Stockton just before closing on June 12, using paintball guns as weapons.

"It's not a good feeling, although there was no gunshots, it was a personal attack on our identity as a community," said one victim, Sandy on the night of the attack.

Nicholas Hatten of the San Joaquin County Pride Center told KCRA afterwards, "It's unfortunate and frustrating especially in light of what happened in Florida while it could be a joke, it's not time to play games."
