All southbound vehicles going into Mexico will be re-directed.
Freeway construction will close the San Ysidro border crossing to southbound vehicle traffic on Interstate 5 and Interstate 805 this weekend.
Starting on Saturday at 3 am and ending at noon on Monday, those trying to drive into Mexico will be detoured to the Otay Mesa border crossing on SR 905.
Crews are realigning the I-5 freeway approach to the border according to Fox 5. Workers will also dismantle a southbound vehicle-inspection canopy over I-5 at the border port.
Underground work will also factor into the 57-hour closure.
Northbound traffic into San Diego through San Ysidro will not be affected and pedestrians can cross in both directions.
CalTrans is predicting heavy traffic all weekend on SR 905 and the Otay Mesa crossing.
The $741 million lane-expansion project is expected to be finished in 2019.
