A journalist tweeted pics of the signs after discovering them last week.
Sometimes it can be whimsical to see how restaurants label their bathrooms for men and women, but this one near Dallas may have gone a little too far.
Dodie’s Place is a Cajun-style eatery in Allen, Texas and it has recently gotten some backlash over their restrooms because of how they are tagged.
In order to discern from the powder rooms, they have taken Caitlyn Jenner’s image, both before her transition and after, to label the men's and women’s room respectively.
Dom DiFurio of Dallas Morning News first spotted the pictures and posted them to Twitter.
“Collin County, where Allen, Texas is, as a whole is considered a conservative bastion in North Texas,” DiFurio said to the Daily Dot. “I wouldn’t consider it a particularly great place to be LGBTQ.”
It may be no surprise that the conservative town would go to that length to mock transgender folk, but DiFurio says it’s more than just a harmless sight gag.
“I saw it as a bit of a physical manifestation of the wink and nod jokes told often to me when I see people from that part of town,” DiFurio said. “The kind of jokes where you feel like the person telling the joke wants you to laugh to verify their inclinations, but doing so would perpetuate a terrible environment for anyone in the LGBTQ community.”
The doors were installed this past August and Dodie's celebrated the renovation, "Come meet our newest members of theDodie's crew" they posted on Facebook, "Caitlyn and Bruce!"
It's reported that calls to the eatery have gone unanswered in regards to their removal.
