No word on when roads or businesses will re-open.
For anyone wishing to travel through the Fashion Valley area, authorities have evacuated the mall and closed Route 163 north of I-8 due to a natural gas leak.
Fox 5 News is reporting that a construction crew broke the gas line at about 10:35 am near Friars Road and Ulrich Street.
A large cloud of gas formed over the leak and swept across Route 163.
Southbound on SR-163 is being diverted onto I-805.
Northbound SR-163 traffic is being diverted onto I-8.
Friars Road is closed between Fashion Valley Mall and Frazee Road with those closures expected to last for five hours according to Sgt. Robert Hawkins.
But reports are not clear about whether or not the line has been closed. Alec Phillips of the SDFD says the pipe was shut off at 1:45 pm and they are waiting for the trapped gas in the line to escape.
However, San Diego San Diego Gas and Electric says that line is still open according to Fox 5.
Evacuations are still in effect with no word being given about an all-clear.
