Staff quit their jobs and members stopped showing up.
INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana -- Many local businesses take advantage of Pride month every year, a time when community and businesses come together to celebrate each other. But this gym in Indianapolis, Indiana, canceled its “Pride workout” because they have a problem with people being proud, “Humility is seeing oneself as they truly are, and as God truly defines them to be.”
That philosophy seems to have been the business' demise as it closed for good just 24-hours after the story went viral.
According to LGBTQ Nation, last week CrossFit Infiltrate was supposed to be the setting for a Pride workout which LGBT members of the gym organized. But owner Brandon Lowe canceled the event just a week before it was scheduled to take place.
Then-member Ryan Nix took to social media to air his dismay. In a post that has since been made invisible to the public he wrote:
“Last week we received an email from the gym canceling our PRIDE workout. We emailed the owner since it seemed that there was an issue with people who may be LGBT. You can see from his response that there is. Since this time the coaches and general manager have all quit. This is all from the owners of the gym. Many of us are leaving the gym due to the owners. Please tell your friends not to join this place.”
Lowe sent Nix a text with his reasoning behind the cancelation:
“Our underlying goal for the staff and members at CrossFit Infiltrate and our other gyms CrossFit White river and University Ave CrossFit is total health and well-being for the individual and community. Total health involves the body, the emotions, relationships, and the spirit. At the foundational detractor from health, as we believe God sets the parameters for, is pride. We believe that true health forever can only be found within humility, not pride. Humility is seeing oneself as they truly are, and as God truly defines them to be. As a business we will choose to deploy our resources towards those efforts and causes that line up with our own values and beliefs."
“Of course we will continue treat anyone and everyone with the same respect and provide the same service at CrossFit Infiltrate to anyone that wishes to take part.”
When the news broke, Lowe went on to say his gym “has a history of welcoming and serving people training to be fit.” He added, “The gym never has and never will be anything but welcoming to all human beings who live, move and breathe and God’s world.”
Several members and staff quit showing up, and yesterday CrossFit Infiltrate closed its doors for good in that location.
Another event, this one all-inclusive has been organized by former employees and will take place in an outdoor space.
