The person who was tragically killed while reportedly sleeping in a Hillcrest parking garage entrance has been identified as 27-year-old Daniel Arreola.

It happened this past Friday when Arreola was asleep in a sloped entrance to an underground parking complex near The Hub at the 1200 block of Cleveland Avenue.

At about 4:15 am a 54-year-old woman in a newer model white Mercedes Benz entered the garage and due to the incline of the driveway didn't see him and accidentally struck and killed Arreola according to the San Diego Medical Examiner's Office.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police.

We spoke with Daniel's cousin Vanessa Arreola who says he was an out and proud member of the LGBT community.

"Daniel was an awesome person," said Vanessa, "Love and equality is what he was about. [He was] fun and spontaneous made everyone have a good time just with his presence."

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with funeral costs.

"Daniel was one of a kind and a beautiful soul that could never be replaced," the family writes. "It hurts us all to have to part from such a wonderful person. Words can't describe how painful it is to not have you here with us...you would've had to meet him to understand who Daniel was."

The family is still organizing memorial and funeral services.
