She says the public was invited to watch "this perversion with these homosexuals."”
Drag queens reading to children seems to be the latest focus of conservative groups who aren't comfortable with diversity.
A bookstore in Riverside CA. was the scene of a woman who rushed the space in front of dozens of children and parents at the Cellar Door Bookstore. You can watch the video HERE.
Linda Sherman-Nurick, owner of the bookstore, said drag queen storytime events are becoming more common. “A lot of indie bookstores are doing drag queen story time. A lot of libraries are doing drag queen story time."
She says that in the days leading up to her event people called and said they shouldn't do it. "Our response was, that's fine don't come."
However, that didn't stop Los Angeles resident and self-proclaimed "rabid Trump supporter" Genevieve Peters from showing up with her cell phone in hand to record the session. She was told filming wasn't allowed and asked to leave by some of the parents. Eventually, a security guard stepped in, but Peters continued to film saying she was only shooting video of the drag queens and not the kids.
“[Sherman-Nurick] has invited the public to watch this perversion with these homosexuals,” said Peters who was being filmed herself. “I’m sorry this is what’s happening.”
In a post-interview with the news channel, Peters said, "This is about saying, 'you know what? this is a perverse lifestyle and if you choose it, it's your business but we as Americans can choose not to agree with it.'"
Her words come as no surprise to Jovani Morales, one of the drag queens who read at the bookstore.
"I’m used to this negativity and hate,” Morales said. “They’re screaming hateful things and negative comments that kids shouldn’t be hearing to begin with.”
Despite her disparaging words about homosexuals, Peters doesn't seem to realize not all drag queens are gay.
