This all-week brunch spot is serving you Rosie the Riveter realness.
If you've been in Hillcrest for any amount of time on any given day, you might hear the word "bitch" being thrown around in a playful way. Now the word is attached to brunch and people are lining up to get a taste.
The restaurant called Breakfast Bitch took over the space that was once Vancouver Wings on Fifth Avenue and has only been open a few weeks, and according to CBS 8 people are lining up out the door to try it out for themselves.
“We had no idea it was going to be this crazy," said co-owner Tracii Hutsona.
The concept was actually taken from her professional restaurant friends who would call each other "breakfast bitch.”
Menu headings are titled "Main Bitch," "Side Bitch," and "Skinny Bitch." Some selections come with pancake batter so you can make your own.
Instead of being a derogatory term, "bitch" is being used as a designation of strength which is also expressed in their company logo.
“Our mascot is actually modeled after Rosie the Riveter, who was, I am sure, you know a World War II icon. She decided she was not going to be anybody’s bitch anymore,” said Tracci, adding, “We are going to take 'bitch' back and make it empowering and make it fun and playful and positive."
Food fare ranges from traditional eggs and bacon to lighter bites such as fruit and croissants. Drinks are what you might expect: Bloody Marys, mimosas and even draft beers.
Breakfast Bitch opened on Saturday, June 15.
