The popular sweet shop is moving back to the neighborhood.
For those of you who miss getting together every week in Hillcrest at Babycakes, there is good news as the popular bakery says they are headed back to the neighborhood with a whole new store.
In a press release, the sweet shop says it has just signed a long term lease in the former Pinkberry spot located at 3795 Fourth Avenue at the prominent corner of Fourth & Robinson, just a block from their former location on Fifth Avenue.
This brick and mortar location will feature their famous cupcakes, cakes, and other baked goods, but gone are restaurant and bar. However, plans to offer coffee, champagne and frozen yogurt are in the works for the future.
Just over a year ago, Babycakes moved out of Hillcrest but always promised to return. Now they say they have found the perfect location and are making good on that promise and scheduled to open this fall.
Also, for those who can't make it to the physical location, you can have your cake and eat it too via mobile delivery services: DoorDash, Postmates, GrubHub and Uber Eats.
This past June, Babycakes opened a temporary pop-up shop inside Fiji Yogurt at the HUB shopping center on University Avenue, although it is unclear if they will continue to use that spot after re-opening in Hillcrest.
Babycakes' management says they continue to thrive at their busy Bakeshop & Coffee House in Imperial Beach, and cranking out the celebration and wedding cakes/cupcakes at their spacious warehouse Bakery & Sales office in South East San Diego.
The new location is anticipated to open in Fall 2019.
