Last month a Utah elementary school student named Daniel was asked what he was thankful for by his teacher. When he said he was thankful for being adopted by two dads the educator asked why then proceeded to tell him it wasn't good: “Homosexuality is wrong,” the teacher said, “two men living together is a sin.”

A few of the 11-year-old's classmates weren't happy with the teacher's response and went to their principal who escorted her off the premises. The teacher was also fired from her placement agency according to New Now Next.

Daniel told his dads about what happened, one a performer on Dancing With the Stars, who in turn went on social media to report the whole thing. Their story went viral and recently the family appeared on CBS This Morning to talk about it.

His dads Louis and Josh van Amstel accompanied Daniel on the show as he recounted that day.

“She first said, ’Why would you be happy to be adopted by them?'” he said. “But she kept going. And she said, ’Are you going to be gay?’ And I have no idea.”

He added: “Honestly, I went red. I didn’t like what she said. I was very mad. Because it’s not right, nice, to insult other families, even if you don’t like them. If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it.”

Daniel said if he were to meet the teacher today he would tell her that she should have made better decisions and she was taught a lesson, "It’s called karma.”

“I would love to have lunch with her,” said his dad Louis van Amstel. “Why would she ever say what she said to him before she actually met us? If we’re bad people, and we steal, we do bad things, then she can have an opinion about that. But because we happen to be gay?”

“It doesn’t matter what family you have,” Daniel added. “It just matters if you love them or not. And yes, I do love them.”
