Ukraine’s Interior Minister And Other Ministry Officials Were Killed In A Helicopter Crash

On Wednesday, around 14 people were killed in Kyiv, Ukraine following a helicopter crash. The Country’s interior minister was among those people who lost their lives in the accident.

The country that had experienced so much horror and despair over the past few years faced another tragedy on Wednesday morning.

As of the reports, it was said that the helicopter that carried the leadership unit of Ukraine’s interior ministry collided with a building in Kyiv resulting in the death of major Interior Ministry Officials, and others gathered outside the building including kids.

The helicopter crashed near the kindergarten in the city of Brovary, outside the Ukrainian capital boarded nine victims including Ukraine’s Interior Minister Denys Monastyrskyi, his deputy, and a state secretary.

Also, as of the reports given out by Kyiv regional governor Oleksiy Kuleba, three kids were killed and twenty-nine individuals were severely injured in the crash. This includes fifteen children. It was believed that children and other employees who work in the kindergarten were at the spot when the chopper crashed into the building which advanced the severity of the accident. 

According to the reports by the rescue team and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES), fourteen bodies were found at the site. And out of this, one child and nine adults were from the chopper.

As said above three crew members and six ministry officials including Interior Minister Denis Monastyrsky, First Deputy Minister Yevheniy Yenin, and State Secretary Yuriy Lubkovychis are those who lost their lives in the tragedy. 

Although it’s been hours after the crash, still there are no updates concerning the official cause of the crash. Also, no suggestions are made by the Ukrainian officials regarding Russian involvement in this tragedy.  

After the news of the crash was officially announced, an adviser to the Ukrainian government Anton Gerashchenko stated that the country lost a whole generation of young politicians in this tragedy and it was a huge misery for everyone.

While asked about the purpose of the journey of the entire leadership of the interior ministry, he replied that this tragedy would be moral for other higher officials and ministers of the country to avoid traveling in a group.

What is most tragic of this accident according to them is the death of innocent children in the kindergarten which was horrific. He even added that all those who lost their lives in the chopper crash were priceless to the country. 

Kyrylo Tymoshenko, the deputy head of the Ukrainian presidential office, said that the helicopter was flying towards frontline regions in eastern Ukraine. He stated that the officials including the Minister of the Interior Affairs were flying in order to execute some work in one of the hotspots in the country where hostels are still continuing. 

As per the reports of the officials, the investigation of the crash is currently progressing and until now, no chance of a fight has been reported lately in the Kyiv region. 

The Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal announced that Ihor Klymenko, head of Ukraine’s national police has been appointed as the deputy interior minister for the time being and will serve as the acting interior minister.

He added that the tragic death of Monastyrskyi and other officials was a great loss for the country. He even used the opportunity to pay his condolences to the victims’ families. Shmyhal stated that a special group was formed for a detailed investigation of all the circumstances of the tragedy.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine stated on his social media that a tragedy occurred in Brovary, Kyiv region as an SES (state emergency services) helicopter crashed outside a building resulting in a huge fire breakout causing the death of 14. He added that the pain is unspeakable.  

Other world leaders including U.S. President Joe Biden expressed his heartfelt condolences for the country’s significant loss addressing the incident as a ‘heartbreaking tragedy.’ 

The tragedy that happened last day was shocking to all as the country is going through a critical situation in the war with Russia that started in 2014.

Recently, Ukraine was appealing for support from Western countries for more weaponry since the war has caused critical damage to both their infrastructure and civilian populations.
