Jonathan Crews, who passed away in February 2014 from a fatal gunshot wound to the heart, is thought to have been murdered by Brenda Lazaro, who he was seeing at the time of his passing, as told by those closest to him. Brenda, who is 26, contends that she took her own life.
Jonathan Crews, 27, was found in his bed by paramedics when they arrived at the scene at approximately 11:40 p.m.
They found him with a gunshot wound to the left side of his chest and he was covered with blankets up to his waist. He has passed away and his arms are outstretched while he is slumped to the left.
The projectile from his own SIG Sauer 9 mm revolver went through his heart, lungs, and liver before leaving through the right side of his back and falling into the bed. The firearm is located on his blanket, next to him where he is sitting.
Dateline on NBC is going to examine the suspicious shooting murder of Jonathan Crews in a brand-new program that is going to be called Behind Door 813. This is what the synopsis of the plot says:

Brenda Lazaro: Jonathan Crews Death
She reports to the authorities that she and her boyfriend spent the night, during which they watched television, ate Chinese food, and argued about a person named Emily.
When Jonathan told Brenda to put her hands over her ears, Brenda maintains she was sitting on the floor at the foot of the bed at the time. She asserts that she was there and heard the shooting at that time.
Jonathan and Brenda first became acquainted at the Wu Yi Shaolin martial arts school, which is housed in a shopping mall next to the Riverchase Apartments in Coppell.
Brenda worked there as a teacher, and Dani, one of Jonathan’s siblings who attended Wu Yi, was a close friend of Brenda.

In addition to Jonathan, Pam, Jonathan’s mother, attended classes there. Jonathan, ever the respectful elder brother, approached Dani and asked her permission to date a friend of hers.
Jonathan Crews’ girlfriend of three months, Brenda Lazaro, was at his home in Coppell, Texas, on the evening of February 2, 2014, when he was tragically shot. It was around 8 o’clock when the incident took place.
In spite of the fact that Crews was an expert in gun safety, his mother Pam, and the rest of his family were not persuaded that he committed suicide and refused to accept the possibility that he accidentally shot himself.
They have reason to suspect he was murdered and have initiated their own investigation into the shooting death after the authorities failed to provide answers that satisfied their needs.
Pam was under the impression that Lazaro was incensed by the fact that Jonathan ended their relationship shortly after she gave him the option to pick between her and Emily.
She gave him the choice to pick one of them. After that, she became envious of him and as a result, she killed him.
In the call to 911 that Lazaro made that evening, she indicated that she waited half an hour after Jonathan was injured before calling the authorities. Even at her own expense, she did not go to his funeral.
After Jonathan Crews was found shot to death in his apartment on Super Bowl Sunday, February 2, 2014, from a single gunshot wound to the heart, it has been nearly nine years since his death was discovered.
He was put to death with the 9mm SIG Sauer that was personally owned by him. Because the authorities did not have enough evidence to be absolutely confident of what took place, they declared the cause of death to be “undetermined.”
Jonathan Crews Family Filed Lawsuit
The family of Jonathan Crews, who was 27 years old at the time, sued Brenda Lazaro in 2016 for wrongful death, alleging that she was responsible for Jonathan’s shooting death.
Pam, the mother of the victim, disclosed some shocking details that were discovered during the family’s own investigation, as well as a lengthy list of deficiencies that led police to conclude that there was “insufficient evidence” to charge Lazaro with the crime.
The conclusion that there was “insufficient evidence” to charge Lazaro was reached because of the information provided by Pam.
In the complaint, Lazaro was accused of killing Crews and lying about using self-defense in the situation.
They used her inconsistent statements to others she knew as proof in their argument. One of her alleged acquaintances said that she told them that Crews shot himself in the chest, while another of her alleged acquaintances claimed that she told them that Crews shot himself in the head.
Despite this, Lazaro maintains her innocence, and she has not been charged at this time.
