A SWAT operation on Monday in the City of Reading resulted in the death of Michael Craddock, a potential bank robber.
According to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect who held up the Fifth Third Bank on West Benson Street with a Gun at 1:30 p.m. was identified as 34-year-old Michael Craddock.
Who Was Michael Craddock? What Happened To Him?
The sheriff’s office reported that Michael Craddock was subsequently discovered at a residence on 3rd Street in Reading.
In order to surround and contain the house while they waited for the Hamilton County SWAT team to arrive, Reading police asked for the assistance of other local law enforcement organizations
Michael Craddock appeared from a back door of a residence and pointed a firearm at the officers who had surrounded the house.
When Craddock was spotted, an officer from Amberly Village who was on the scene shot one round at him.
Suddenly, the suspect went back inside the home. According to the sheriff’s office reports, when SWAT personnel entered the house on Third Street, they found Michael Craddock dead. As per the reports, he was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
A Neighbor Describes The Incidents
A neighbor, Steve Meiser, who saw the standoff claimed the police officers kept telling Michael Craddock to come out with his hands up.
The next thing he saw was the SWAT arriving there with all of their patrol cars and everything. They reportedly had their guns out.
Meiser reported hearing both the gunshot and loud explosion soon before SWAT stormed the house when he was standing in front of the porch watching the events.
Meiser stated that the officers told them to get back inside because they don’t want them to stand around watching the flying bullets.
They were unaware of what was going to happen in the next moment. So it’s their duty to make sure the people around them are safe.
The Aftermath Of Michael Craddock Death
The Hamilton County prosecutor’s office and Sheriff’s office are both investigating the shooting of Michael Craddock. The incident, which is being investigated as an officer-involved shooting, is still under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Section of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office and the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the representatives of the City of Reading, there is an active police situation, thus the areas between Mechanic and Benson Streets as well as between Fifth Street and Reading Road are closed.
As per the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, the Fifth Third Bank robbery on Benson Street was the reason for the SWAT standoff on East Vine Street.
The City of Ready representatives said that the areas where the robbery and the SWAT standoff occurred are currently safe and secure but will be closed to the public due to the ongoing investigation.
