A new twist on networking: scavenger hunt

SAN DIEGO -- An upcoming “scavenger hunt” mixer will be all about fun and will offer participants a new experience while networking and meeting new people.

The event is co-sponsored by San Diego Gay and Lesbian News (SDGLN.com), SD PIX (SDPIX.com) and the Greater San Diego Business Association – the GLBT chamber of commerce.

Organizers wanted something different, rather than a traditional mixer where attendees mingle with people they are already familiar and comfortable with. The scavenger hunt mixer will challenge participants to leave their comfort zone and mingle with new faces.
Guests will have to collect different types of business cards, such as a business card from a dentist, one with the image of a pet, or one without a Web site, etc.

Raffle tickets will be given to those who complete the scavenger hunt list for a chance to win fun prizes from local businesses.

Tom Luhnow, CEO of GSDBA, said he is excited and confident about the success of the unusual mixer.

“It’s all about fun, so I think people will have a good time while getting to make new connections,” Luhnow said. “The idea is to get people to meet more new people than they usually would at a mixer, yet have a good time and not feel stressed out by it.”

The mixer will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, at Jake’s On Sixth Wine Bar, 3755 Sixth Ave. in Hillcrest. Jake’s will provide complimentary appetizers, and wine will be $3 per glass. Reduced prices on other drinks will be offered.

The event is free and open to ages 21 and older. No RSVP required.
