SAN DIEGO -- The Imperial Court de San Diego has elected another set of community title-holders.
The 2010 Show Queen and King were named Sunday night at a show and contest at The Flame nightclub in Hillcrest.
Cassidy Richards won the title of 2010 Show Queen after performing a number which included backup dancers and choreographed moves. She also answered a series of questions and showed off her best evening gown in front of a panel of judges comprised of community leaders, performers and previous title-holders.
Coco Trinity La Diva was named first runner-up.
This year was the first time that the Show King portion of the competition was included, giving drag king performers the opportunity to participate and be crowned.
Dragon Dre Johnson was named the first Show King after performing Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On.”
Smokey Gonzalez was named first runner-up.
Empress 38 Regina Styles, who produced the show, said she was pleased with the event.
“Not only does this show give up-and-coming entertainers a chance to show off their talent, but we are able to raise money and give back to the community while doing it,” she said.
The show was a benefit for the programs of the Imperial Court de San Diego.
As title-holders, Richards and Johnson will work closely with the Imperial Court throughout the year to host fundraisers and carry out other duties.
