Hancock Park garden party on Oct. 3 to raise money for Gay & Lesbian Elder Housing

WEST HOLLYWOOD -- The 2010 Garden Party to benefit Gay & Lesbian Elder Housing will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, at the Hancock Park historic Petitfils-Boos estate in Los Angeles.

This will mark the ninth year of the event that benefits the welfare and happiness of LGBT seniors.

Celebrity honorees are:

Adam Shankman – His work ranges from co-producer/lead choreographer of the 2010 Academy Awards (which earned a record 12 Emmy nominations) to directing and producing hits such as "Hairspray" and the upcoming "Rock of Ages." He heads his production company, Offspring Entertainment, and co-founded the Dizzy Feet Foundation, which promotes dance education.

Rona Barrett -- She is a pioneer of business and entertainment reporting. Interviews with John Wayne, Lucille Ball and Bette Davis became her trademark and film clips of these talks, along with her recollections of her illustrious career, are the focal point of her new one-woman show, "Rona Barrett: Nothing but the Truth," which recently premiered in Beverly Hills to rave reviews and was created in support of the Rona Barrett Foundation on behalf of seniors in need.

Tony Mills, MD -- The Los Angeles-based physician is a leading clinician in the fields of men's health and HIV disease. He serves as the primary care provider for 1,500 patients, including more than 700 people living with HIV. He has served on the national board of the American Academy of HIV Medicine (AAHIVM) and is an experienced clinical investigator with extensive research experience. He has been a principal investigator on over 50 trials dealing with many aspects of HIV disease and is one of the few HIV specialists focusing on the emerging field of HIV and the aging population. He has also been recognized by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and the California legislature for his outstanding contributions to the community.

Activities will include an exceptional silent auction, a performance by Fourtissimo String Quartet, the hilarious Queers of Comedy, a raffle for a weeklong stay at W Barcelona (courtesy of W Hollywood) complete with $2,000 in travel voucher/expense gift checks and food, as well as cocktails courtesy of GREY® GOOSE Vodka.

Entertainment provided by Upright Cabaret.

Special appearances will be made by Jennifer Leigh Warren (Broadway: “Little Shop of Horrors,” “Big River”) and Jake Simpson (Oprah
favorite, '03 and '04 “Star Search” grand champion).

The eclectic, contemporary electronic sound spectacular of DJ Derek Monteiro's legendary spinning style (The Abbey/Cherry Pop/HERE Lounge) will also be featured.

The fundraiser supports Gay & Lesbian Elder Housing, the nation's first affordable housing development providing vital housing and social support services to some of the nation's most vulnerable seniors.

Each year, as the LGBT senior population grows, countless low-income LGBT seniors are faced with the challenge of securing safe, permanent, affordable housing and social services that address their specific concerns and meet their unique needs. The program is dependent on the contributions and support of the community, private foundations, donors and volunteers.
