Bartender hopefuls to compete for Bourbon Street job this Thursday

SAN DIEGO -- Bourbon Street Bar & Grill wants to know: Do you have what it takes to become their next bartender?

The popular New Orleans-style venue will host a "Bartender Competition" this Thursday, Feb. 24, at 9 p.m.

General Manager Chuck Ferrante said Bourbon Street needs to hire another bartender, but to fill the opening, they decided to do something fun to engage customers and the community.

"People love shows and competitions like 'Top Chef' and 'America's Next Top Model,' so we thought we would do something like that here, to hire our next bartender," Ferrante said.

During the competition, contestants will be judged on a number of things, including whether or not they are the "right fit" for Bourbon Street.

"Without giving away too many of the rules, contestants will be interviewed by the host who will ask questions and then they will be asked to make drinks," Ferrante said.

While the final selection and hiring will be done by Bourbon Street's management, audience response will be considered. Ferrante encourages contestants to bring their friends and supporters to the competition to cheer them on.

Contestants should have previous bartending experience and be connected within the San Diego LGBT community.

Contest registration begins at 8:30 pm with the interactive competition starting at 9 pm. The winner will receive $300 as a prize and a new bartending job at Bourbon Street.

Following the Bartender Competition, stick around for another edition of SDPIX's popular "WET" contest.
