SAN DIEGO -- Hillcrest residents are invited to tonight's Hillcrest Town Council (HTC) meeting, which will include discussion on a number of topics of interest to the neighborhood, including a presentation by Congressman Bob Filner, who is also running for mayor.
The meeting, which begins at 6:30 pm, will also include presentations from representatives of other local elected officials and allow time for participants to ask questions or make comments about issues important to them.
Another item on tonight’s agenda will be the presentation of a LION Award to one of Hillcrest’s newest businesses, Pita Jungle. The restaurant was selected for the award, which is an acronym for “Lets Improve Our Neighborhood,” because it brought back life to the long-vacant site it now sits in, located at 1045 University Ave., next to Rich’s nightclub.
Finally, the group will remember longtime Hillcrest activist Nick Hubbard, who passed away July 23. SDGLN’s Kurt Niece wrote a tribute to Hubbard HERE, noting that many in the community referred to him as “the Mayor of Hillcrest.”
Hubbard was a founding member of HTC, and advocated for positive change in the community for many years.
All residents, including renters and owners, are invited to attend the meeting, which is open to the public and will take place at the Joyce Beers Community Center, located on Vermont Street just north of Cleveland Avenue.
While attendees are encouraged to walk to the meeting if possible, two-hour parking is available in the shopping center’s surface lot, while unlimited parking is available in the underground lot.
