SAN DIEGO -- The Hillcrest Town Council (HTC) will host its next monthly meeting tonight, Tuesday, Oct. 9, with a presentation by City Councilmember Carl DeMaio, who is running for mayor.
DeMaio's opponent, Congressman Bob Filner, spoke to the group in August.
HTC representatives have asked DeMaio to share his vision for San Diego, and will provide attendees with the opportunity to engage in a dialogue with the candidate.
Following DeMaio's presentation, a number of other business items will be conducted, including the presentation of two LION Awards (Let's Improve Our Neighborhood).
The first award will be given to Ortega's - A Mexican Bistro for its support of HTC, including hosting the group's monthly steering committee meetings. Community member Ricardo Rodriguez will also receive a LION Award for "the complete and wonderful upgrades" he has done on two houses at Vermont and Pennsylvania streets.
SANDAG will make a presentation on changes coming to regional transit passes; and two Hillcrest residents will be named to the Uptown Regional Bike Corridor Project's design advisory group.
As is the case at all HTC meetings, there will also be updates from staff of local elected officials, and an open forum for community members to present issues of concern to them.
The meeting begins at 6:30 pm at the Joyce Beers Community Center, located on Vermont Street, just north of Cleveland Avenue, in the Uptown District Shopping Center. Surface parking in the shopping plaza is strictly limited to two hours; unlimited parking is available in the underground lot.
