SAN DIEGO -- The Hillcrest Farmers Market, one of San Diego's largest and longest running weekly markets, will expand its footprint starting Sunday, April 7.
The expansion is the result of the 16-year-old market's incredible growth of vendors and customer foot traffic and is necessary to keep up with the demand.
Plans include expanding the market south on Normal Street up to University Avenue to accommodate more vendors, and additional parking and a free trolley shuttle will be available. The new ParkHillcrest trolley service will add a Sunday loop through the market at Harvey Milk Street and Normal Street to the San Diego Unified School District's (SDUSD) headquarters building, which has over 300 available parking spaces - free of charge.
Market patrons who park at the SDUSD building should enter the lot via Campus Avenue, which is accessible by taking Washington Street West, and turning left.
The Hillcrest Farmers Market is open every Sunday from 9 am to 2 pm along Normal Street, starting at Lincoln Avenue. Sponsored by the Hillcrest Business Association, the market includes numerous vendors selling everything from fresh fruits and vegetables, to flowers, crafts, art, and other items.
Weekly entertainment and special events also are regularly scheduled for the enjoyment of market patrons.
