SAN DIEGO -- State Assemblymembers Toni Atkins, Shirley Weber and Lorena Gonzalez will host a holiday open house and gift raiser on Wednesday, Dec. 18 from 4-6 pm in the San Diego Sate Building.
Community members are welcome to celebrate the holidays with these three state representatives and drop off toys to be donated to families in need.
The three assemblymembers all represent different portions of San Diego County and are organizing the event to gather support for San Diego Youth Services, nationally recognized, comprehensive non-profit organization that has helped stabilize the lives of more than a half-million young people and their families since 1970. Among the services they provide are preventing delinquency and school failure, helping to end homelessness, promoting mental health and addiction recovery, and breaking the cycle of child abuse and neglect.
San Diego Youth Services' holiday wish list includes:
◊ Diapers (the need for these is especially great);
◊ Gift cards from retailers, movie theaters, local attractions, and fast food restaurants;
◊ Holiday baskets for the home or for family fun;
◊ Baby formula;
◊ Basic needs such as socks, bedding, bus passes;
◊ Holiday food items.
Community members who attend the holiday gathering are encouraged to bring an unwrapped item from this list to donate.
Atkins, Weber, and Gonzalez and their staffs will be present at the gathering to talk about the upcoming year in the state legislature.
The San Diego State Building is located at 1350 Front St. in Downtown San Diego. Parking is available in the lot on Union Street between West A and West Ash Streets.
