Ruby Rose, sets the stage to host Flawles Media’s pool-side celebration
SAN DIEGO, CA – Ruby Rose, Award winning MTV VJ turn singer/producer/activist, joins the FlawLes Media team to host this year’s FlawLes Pride Pool Party at the Andaz San Diego hotel. Ruby Rose is currently the face of Maybelline New York and known for Djing at some of the biggest parties and artists from around the world, including Nicki Minaj, Jessie J and Calvin Harris.
“We couldn’t be more excited to have Ruby at this year’s pool party”, said FlawLes Media’s Talonya Geary. “We were looking for our X-Factor for this year’s event and Ruby Rose was exactly that -- she’s exactly who we needed to make this year’s event that unforgettable experience we guarantee. And with the recent launch of Break Free, the timing couldn’t be better!”
The Australian transplant who now hails from Los Angeles, CA has inadvertently made waves across the internet this week with her timely gender fluid debut short film - ‘Break Free.’ In just 48 hours, the video has gone viral with over 2 million views on Facebook and reaching over 16 million people. A DJ, model, actress, activist, Australian MTV VJ and face of Maybelline – the 27 year old is no stranger to the spotlight. However, this weeks sweeping embrace of ‘Break Free’ on social media has come as quite a shock to her:
“When we finished the film, I just put it out there and posted it to my Facebook page. I knew that other people have felt the same way I have and could relate, I just didn’t expect it to resonate the way that it has with so many already – the response has been overwhelming. I the past two days, thousands of people have messaged me sharing their stories and what this says to me is that we’ve really struck a chord here. It’s bigger than LGBT community, gender identity affects us all. Change is in order.
I am not transgender, but I am gender fluid. Years ago I cut all my hair off, it was the most liberating thing I had ever done - I had to break free. I’ve been wanting to make this film for some time now as a form of self-preservation. I find peace and solitude in following my heart and choosing to deviate from the status quo of gender identity despite the criticism and lack of understanding from many. I urge people to watch this video for a glimpse into my journey, which is shared with so many others.”
