When I first began working at Pride in 2011 we were not yet using photos to tell the story of our organization or community. While we enjoyed LGBTQ employment protections for some time in the state of California – San Diego has the highest concentration of LGBTQ military personnel in the world, and the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell had not yet taken effect.

Only a month after the largest San Diego Pride in history, Hillcrest will come alive once again for its annual CityFest event on August 11.

This enormous event will take over the heart of the neighborhood with plenty of things to do including arts, crafts, and food.

There was a lo to cover this week in the news. Locally it came to light that some death threats had been made against San Diego Pride, but police were able to apprehend the suspect who they also linked to several bank robberies. 

A popular Chicago drag queen died unexpectedly in the hospital while recovering from a car crash. 

SDPIX celebrates 17 years of publishing this Saturday and Pedro Lopez just won bottle service for six at the event. 

Congratulations to him and those he wishes to bring along at Rich's Nightclub.

His entourage will be among the many revelers who will fill the nightclub for a night of music, dance and eye-popping entertainment. 

A new study published in the Journal of Ethnic and Racial Studies has found that Muslim LGBT individuals who are seeking asylum in Germany are more likely to be successful if they were born male, middle to upper class, and act flamboyantly. 

Turning 17 is a special milestone, and this week SDPIX is celebrating that birthday with a special party at Rich's. Developed in 2002 by Johnathan Hale, SDPIX is the quintessential Hillcrest event guide that not only features the best parties and events but also gives the community a hard copy keepsake of fun nights out with friends and family.

B2 Creative Productions Inc. presents Pop ART! A local art show hosted at #1 Fifth Ave. Featuring DJ Pur Flo, local artists, live performers and community giveaways! It's always an amazing time (21+ to enter).

Just in time for San Diego Pride, the SDPIX "Together Strong Pride" July issue is available on news racks now and is infused with a vibrant rainbow layout featuring an array of models representing the LGBT community. 

There was plenty of record and groundbreaking news this week about San Diego Pride. From the biggest attendance numbers to date, to a special flyover from F-15s saluting the trans military servicemembers, it was definitely an event for the ages.

The music festival welcomed iconic rocker Melissa Etheridge to the stage for two hours of her greatest and latest hits.
