Summer is definitely here and there was plenty to report in the news this week. From a week-long heat wave to an upcoming celebration at Rich's for SDPIX's Sweet 16 to other interesting events locally and from around the world.  

NEWS

A transgender woman was found dead last week in Orange County, Florida.

Summer is definitely upon us in San Diego as temperatures soared throughout the county this week starting on Monday. 

As the temperatures begin to soar in San Diego this week, it's important to be aware that leaving a pet in a hot car can kill them.

A Chick-fil-A is set to start accepting customers later this week, but its historic anti-LGBT stance may not be as savory as their waffle fries, especially to its next-door neighbor McDonald's

CVS Pharmacy has apologized for the way it treated one of its customers in Arizona this past week. Hilde Hall had just recently been given the go-ahead by her doctor to start her hormone treatment but when she went to pick up her prescription she was met with alleged harassment

Sara Cunningham from Oklahoma says she will be your mother for a day if you want one. 

A European teen was told that he could not perform in drag at his high school and now he's going to set the stage on fire at Europe's largest drag-con, DragWorld UK.  

Two fathers were stabbed by their adoptive son on Tuesday in their Sherman Oaks, Calif., home early Tuesday morning.

Along with the announcement of CityFest Art and Music Festival 2018, comes some other exciting news that rainbow crosswalks in Hillcrest may soon become a reality.

Representative Jeff Duncan (R-SC) along with House Republicans are leading the charge to ban the flying of rainbow flags at U.S. embassies.

COMMENTARY

Parent company of Helix Studios (13 Red Media Ltd), known for the hottest models and videos, released the first novel in their new Rise Up series on July 19, 2018. The author, Taylor Saracen and his subject, Helix model Blake Mitchell will attend a book signing in Hillcrest. 

CAUSES

San Diego has been the destination of many LGBT immigrants seeking safety because in their countries being gay or trans can result in harsh punishments including torture and even death. Now you can help with a donation to the Bruce M. Abrams Tortue Survivors Fund. 

The San Diego Pride Parade is the largest single-day civic event in the region and is among the largest in the United States. And this year there was no exception. There is still some swag left for purchase. Proceeds go to fund San Diego Pride's year-round civic engagement, events, and programs.

ENTERTAINMENT

European drag performer and talk show host Barry Humphries, better known as Dame Edna Everage, caused a stir among trans activists and the LGBT community when he denounced trans people last week, calling them "rat-baggery": an Australian slang term for nonsense

New York City-based drag queen and entrepreneur Biblegirl is none too happy with a promoter who still hasn't paid her for a gig she did for with RuPaul's Drag Race stars.

Hip-hop artist singer and songwriter Wiz Khalifa caught the attention of the internet recently when he appeared on the popular radio show “The Breakfast Club" saying that straight men shouldn't eat bananas whole. 

Anyone who has been a part of the music scene in San Diego for the last twenty years undoubtedly has been to one of Jason Mraz's often impromptu appearances around town. The singer opens up about his sexuality in a recent article. 

Route 66, a National Treasure of the National Trust, winds its way some 2,400 miles from Chicago to Los Angeles. It weaves past small towns, big cities, National Parks, roadside attractions, and also: gay bars.
