The LGBT Award event of the year!
Every year the Nicky Awards are handed out to people and establishments in San Diego's LGBT community for their work in making positive changes, working toward acceptance and equality throughout the county.
Awarded to people nominated by their peers, the Nicky's is celebrating 43 years and that makes them the oldest LGBT awards on the west coast.
This year the always entertaining and colorful event will take place on Sunday, December 2 with special guest emcee San Diego's own Ms. Pearl who was also a finalist on America's Got Talent.
Nominees represent over 40 categories including attributes in Outstanding Achievement in Business, Social Service, Entertainment, Bars, Restaurants, Organizations, Activism, Community Leadership, Media, Service, and many more.
Past ceremonies have been attended by celebrities and government officials.
Deemed "The Gay Academy Awards of San Diego," The Nicky's were also praised by Governor Gray Davis who said "By showcasing excellence in the community, the Nicky Awards serve as proof that every person has something important to contribute, that each of us can make a difference. This celebration is a tribute to the men and women of San Diego's LGBT community who work hard to improve the quality of life for all."
