NEWS

San Diego is losing another of its historic gay bars this year, The Caliph on Fifth Avenue in Bankers Hill will be shuttering for good on December 31, 2018. 

High-end designer Prada is being accused of selling blackface merchandise within their new accessory line called Pradamalia, a whimsical collection of characters recently added to their catalog.

A three-car accident was reported in Hillcrest just before midnight on Sunday. It happened on the 1700 block of University Avenue, one car was blocking the street and a tree was uprooted according to the San Diego Police Department. 

A high school in Virginia is divided after one of its teachers would not call a trans student by his preferred pronouns and was subsequently fired.

A Missouri father has made a complaint to the Columbia Board of Education after he tore down high school posters which promote the Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA). 

Currently, at The San Diego History Center, the exhibit  LGBTQ+San Diego: Stories of Struggles and Triumphs, is providing a rare glimpse into the city's queer past, but even they may have given pause to display something as provocative as a glory hole. An Australian museum hopes to display one in a new LGBT exhibit. 

Law enforcement officials are investigated numerous bomb threats being made across the U.S. on Thursday. There were about 20 made in San Diego

COMMENTARY

Rev. Irene Monroe weighs in on the Kevin Hart controversy. "While I will continue to argue that the African American community doesn’t have a patent on homophobia, it does, however, have a problem with it.  And comedian Kevin Hart is another glaring example of the malady."

CAUSES

Ellen Page assures me that a live table read is definitely a fun night out even if I think it sounds like something I'd want to take a rain check on. The Oscar-nominated actress is playing it again Sam in this year's table read as Rick Blaine, to Kiersey Clemons'  Ilsa Lund in a lesbian twist to the 1942 classic film Casablanca. Timothy Rawles interviewed the star and we talked about some things. 

ENTERTAINMENT

With his awesome online musical parodies and salient political humor, it seems you're never too far from the LGBT force that is Randy Rainbow. The comedian and actor is stepping out of your computer and into San Diego for an evening of live entertainment this spring.

Travel writer Joey Amato was thoroughly impressed with Oklahoma City, "This trip was actually quite special as it was the first time the Oklahoma City Convention and Visitors Bureau (Visit OKC) organized an LGBT specific media trip.

Dolly Parton is on par with Cher as an LGBT music icon, and Drag Race alumnus Ginger Minj is paying homage to the country legend in this new music video

John M. Danneker passed away last year and his husband Michael Bekemeier is holding a Celebration of Life on Sunday, Dec 16, 2018.

Mathew Shepard's parents, Judy and Dennis, will be presented the Mayor George Moscone Humanitarian Award by San Diego Mayor Kevin Falconer and First Lady Katharine Falconer at the Nicky Awards on Sunday.
