This week was one for the history books as Hillcrest will finally get their Normal Street Promenade which is scheduled to be completed in 2020.

The week started out a little rough for San Diego's Trans Pride when they shared a post that denounced LGBT men and women in uniform. In celebrity news, Beverly Hills 90210 heartthrob Luke Perry died at 52 and causing Gen Xers everywhere to pause in remembrance.

Here are those stories and everything we covered this week.

NEWS

San Diego Trans Pride has issued an apology following a community uproar over a post they shared condemning LGBT people in uniform on Sunday. The original post came from the Australian group known as National Union of Students Queer/LGBTI (NUS).

Even though SANDAG and The City of San Diego had already approved the Normal Street Promenade in Hillcrest, the project's future was still up in the air due to concerns from local business owners and residents as late as this week. But the Uptown Planners have approved the project and now it can move forward.

COMMENTARY

An LGBT activist recalls their struggle to quit nicotine: "It wasn’t due to peer pressure, and I wasn’t aware that the tobacco industry aggressively targets the LGBTQ+ community. I was struggling with severe depression, suicidal ideation and coming to terms with my sexual orientation. At the time, I didn’t even know what transgender was, but I was presenting as female and wanted to date other females."

CAUSES

We all hold a special light within us so why not let it shine at the SDPIX Glow Pool Party, a special fundraiser being held at publisher Johnathan Hale's home on April 13 to benefit The Trevor Project.

The Landscape Architect for Hillcrest's Pride Plaza, Michael Brennan, sent out a message last week in a call to action to implore the community to speak up in support of the Hillcrest Promenade Project.

ENTERTAINMENT

Luke Perry, the star of teen television soap Beverly Hills 90210 has died at 52-years-old. The star had suffered a massive stroke last Wednesday, something of which he could not recover.

Jean Lowerison reviews "Gabriel": Faith, treachery, fear, love and even a little magic can be seen in Moira Buffini’s taut, complex and fascinating play “Gabriel,” in its West Coast premiere through March 17 at North Coast Repertory Theatre.

Even the multitude of disclaimers and explanations by developers saying this video game is only a "parody" isn't stopping some people from charging that Jesus Strikes Back: Judgement Day (sic) is no joke.

The Fab Five are returning to Netflix sooner than you may have thought. The Emmy® Award-winning Queer Eye is getting ready for another binge-worthy series so you'll want to stock up on Kleenex.

Italian Illusionist Riccardo Berdini believes that music has the magical and mysterious power to influence our emotions and to define who we are. You can see him live on Saturday at Martinis Above Fourth.
