SDGLN Weekly Wrap: April 20 - April 26, 2019

Here is everything we covered in SDGLN this week.

This week there was yet another act of anti-LGBT vandalism, this time it was at the Oceanside LGBTQ Center. There is also a milestone in Palm Springs as Jeffrey Sanker's legendary dance festival turns 30. Locally, people using dockless scooters along with their respective companies will have to abide by new laws and regulations.

Also, in this week's Out & About we give you all the details on what there is to do in Hillcrest and around San Diego whether you're looking for a little fun, culture, good causes or all three.

CAUSES

A group of friends who have a passion for saving and caring for animals has started a unique no-kill dog shelter, their mission? To help, "abused, neglected, abandoned dogs by providing them with shelter, care and affection until a loving home is found." It's a project called "Rescuing Cujo," and they are having an open house on Saturday, May,11.

ENTERTAINMENT

San Diego Pride is rallying up the A-listers of musical entertainment in what is looking to be one of the best Pride Festivals they have ever produced. SOCIAL

It's the perfect night to let your light shine at the home of SDPIX publisher Johnathan Hale for the Glow Pool Party on Saturday, May 18 featuring music from the incomparable DJ Dirty Kurty.

You can't really talk about gay dance festivals without bringing up Jefferey Sanker's name. He's been doing it for 30 years after moving to Los Angeles. He recently spoke to the Hollywood Reporter and recalls his California beginnings working at West Hollywood's legendary Studio One. Inspired, he started looking at the desert as a venue.

HEALTH WELLNESS AND SPORTS

Little Callie June has captured the hearts of social media on her journey through cancer treatment despite one homophobe who went out of their way to make what should be a compassionate ordeal into a political one. She told the child's mothers that she was going to donate a large sum of money to help them out, but decided against it because God does not approve of a child having two moms.

Holistic medicine is a choice but apparently, according to Dr. Mariam Al-Sohel, homosexuality isn't. She's right about that but her reasoning is a bit sticky
