You may not know them all, so this queer artist is helping you out.
Everyone probably recognizes the rainbow flag as the universal symbol of the LGBT community. But there are other subcultures that have adopted banners of their own and every year around this time they are displayed with Pride.
Even though you may be a model student of everything queer history, there are constantly things being added to the lexicon and possibly escaped your knowledge base. Memorizing every tribe under the LGBT spectrum by their respective flag is probably too daunting especially after a few cocktails. If you have, congratulations, you get a gold star!
For those of us who haven't, queer artist Xan has created a hand-drawn legend of 30 queer banners to help out. This year, Xan refreshed their list of flags to the chart you see at left.
"What you’re seeing here is an updated version of my summer 2018 Pride Flags comic," Xan explains on their website. "The original version contained a mistake (I switched two colors on the ace flag, sorry ace friends!) and the new version features an additional row of flags! As of the time I’m making this update, even this newer version is kinda out of date – there’s a new lesbian flag that’s gained a lot of traction and more or less supplanted the old ones – but I figure this version is still an improvement on the original."
So take a look at the diagram and when you're out and about for Pride this weekend go say "hi" to your tribe.
