One of the biggest events in San Diego is happening this weekend. The Red Dress Party is being held at the Broadway Pier with proceeds going to local HIV/AIDS programs to help those affected by the disease.

In other news, the Drag Queen Story Time has come and gone, but not before a local church opposing the program was vandalized. Church officials believe they were a target of the graffiti because of their opposition.

We also recognized September 11 this week and honored the LGBT victims and heroes who gave their lives in the terrorist attack.

These and a lot more stories in this week's Weekly Wrap.

NEWS

A day before Drag Queen Storytime at the Civic Center Library Branch, one church who opposes the event is alleging that their property was vandalized by Storytime supporters over the weekend. The markings were covered but remained outside of the South Bay Pentecostal Church on Sunday as went inside for weekly worship services.

The New York City Council has taken steps to repeal a ban on conversion therapy in order to avoid a suit that they fear will reach a conservative U.S. Supreme Court.

COMMENTARY

Eighteen years ago America changed forever as terrorists commandeered four commercial airliners and purposefully flew them into the World Trade Center buildings and the Pentagon. The fourth jet was headed to Washington D.C.but crashed into a field in Pennsylvania after the passengers were able to overtake the hijackers. 2,996 people were killed that day, many LGBT people among them.

CAUSES

A study now proves what we all probably knew: Therapeutic intervention to change a transgender person's identity to that of a cis person is toxic and can lead to attempts at suicide

You have probably met Edward Jaime at one of many places in Hillcrest. He can be seen working at #1 Fifth Avenue and Flicks but you might not recognize him after next Saturday. That's okay, it's for a good cause.

ENTERTAINMENT

Victor/Victoria is a witty, comic romp examining questions of gender, identity, and love, set in Paris in the 1930s and it is now playing at the Moonlight Amphitheater.

Our theater critic Jean Lowerison reviews a stage adaptation of "Amadeus" and the movie "The Last Photograph."
