Hillcrest's haunted Halloween dance party and costume competition is back for 2019 and the talent they have lined up is scary good.

Nightmare on Normal will take over the Pride Flag Plaza with late-night live entertainment, costume competitions, outdoor bars, and the best people-watching in all of San Diego.

This year's entertainment is some of the community's best artists including a drag reality-star headliner:

Allusia will emcee the costume competition at Nightmare on Normal Street. Her social media profile says, "From teen model to comedic actress to party hostess extraordinaire,  Allusia is dedicated to improving the fun to person ratio."

James Majesty from season two of Dragula will headline the night. James Majesty is one of the ten contestants to compete on the second season of The Boulet Brothers' DRAGULA. Not only was she a fan favorite on that show, she has a huge Instagram following.

Then get ready for a performance by Vivvi the Force, a local drag artist and performer with a signature demonic themed style and punk rock aesthetic known for creating diverse, creative, and horrifying costumes while still showcasing a look of beauty and glamour. Dedicated to motivating and inspiring others and representing a piece of the queer spectrum sometimes overlooked in the scene.

Nightmare on Normal Street is a neighborhood frightfest that gathers the community together for a night of Halloween fun with a huge block party and many fun surprises around every corner.

It's the ultimate night for grown-ups with tricks and treats, plenty of people watching, specialty drinks and the best music in town.

Erik Benson is creating something special:

Artist Erik Benson is putting together something special for the Nightmare on Normal beer garden. We asked if he could tease us with a little bit of his concept before its unveiling. Without giving too much away, he says it's going to be spectacular.

"With the relevancy into something very popular right now I believe that people will hopefully love it," says Erik. "I wanted to take something people are into currently and make it a completely immersive experience. It will be nostalgic and a completely thought out design for that Insta worthy moment."

He says all the time he is putting into the piece is necessary, for the experience, something he appreciates when others do the same thing. "I wanted to offer a conversation starter while not disrupting the flow of the party itself. An extension in a certain manner that encourages people to tell stories, laugh with friends, and continuously look around... possibly in fear."

Erik is passionate about Nightmare on Normal Street because of its sense of unity.

"I really appreciate the fact that a whole town comes together to throw an amazing costume/dance party," said Erik. "The difference is I think it’s amazing that I know most people who participate in giving a true sense of community that I haven’t found anywhere else."

Be sure to check out Erik's original piece at the beer garden on the night of the block party.

Also, bring your fur babies for a special event

Dirty Dogs and Meow is sponsoring the pet costume contest. They will be gifting some great premium grooming prizes for the pets with the best costumes.

So kick-off your 2019 Halloween festivities by dancing the night away with James Majesty, Vivvi the Force, Allusia and all of your friends for this spooktacular event which promises to be the most exciting one yet.
