Benny Turning 30

Life with Benny: Approaching 31

What I am learning is that only I can make the changes in my life that I want to see. I can spend my days playing the "blame game" only to find myself more angry, or I can just push through life’s challenges and grab what I want.

A moment of thanks

Today I turned 30 years old and this then lead me to start thinking about people in my life that I have looked up to and viewed as role models. While there are many people that have shaped who I am today, I really started to think about the gay men that have been central parts of my growth.

Leaving my baggage on doorstep of 30

A wise friend recently reminded me that while all of life is a constant mistake and learning process, our 20s are particularly prone to mistakes. But by entering into the 30s with a clear head and recognition of past missteps, the next phase of life will be so much easier.

Countdown to 30: All systems are now GO

When I was 19, I one of my biggest “dreams” was to skip over age 20 so I could reach the seemingly magical age of 21. Time seemed to pass at turtle-like speed as I awaited that “milestone” (now I can’t seem to slow down the hands of time).

On the fast track to a major milestone

My friends and acquaintances that are younger than me, especially my gay male friends, seem to look at 30 as sort of the end of life. They can’t fathom being such an age and sometimes speak about my turning 30 in sort of a friendly “I feel sorry for you” type of way. I’m not ready to join the AARP just yet.

Letting go is hard to do

Letting go is hard to do. We often get wrapped in certain people, things and events that are just so hard to shake.
