In an effort to reduce congestion at local hospital emergency rooms, regional health care leaders urged the public on Friday to use emergency rooms only in actual medical emergencies and provided recommendations for individuals on managing their health care to avoid ER overuse.
Open enrollment for private health coverage through Covered California in 2015 ended Sunday, but individuals who started the application process by Feb. 15 but didn't finish have until Feb. 22 to complete the process.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has confirmed that it views a 2010 law prohibiting sex discrimination in health care services as protecting transgender and other LGBT people from discrimination based on gender identity and gender stereotyping.
The U.S. Supreme Court this morning upheld President Barack Obama’s health care reform law, saying that the insurance mandate is unconstitutional but can survive under the taxing authority granted to Congress.
