Empress Jose Julio Sarria remembered on fifth anniversary of his death

City Commissioner Nicole M. Ramirez has called Jose Julio Sarria "The Rosa Parks of the Gay Rights Movement."

This past weekend Commissioner Nicole Murray Ramirez flew to San Francisco to attend memorial events on the fifth anniversary of the death of LGBT activist Empress Jose Julio Sarria. 

In 1961 Sarria, a World War II veteran, made history when he became the first openly gay candidate to run for public office (San Francisco Board of Supervisors).

Nicole Murray-Ramirez presented Northern California mayors with civil rights awards

OAKLAND, California – This past Friday at the Alameda Ducal Council annual coronation, Queen Mother of the America’s Nicole Murray-Ramirez presented Oakland Mayor Libby Schaff and Emeryville Mayor John Bauters with the International Jose Julio Sarria Civil Rights award.

The Imperial Court fed over 600 people in San Diego this Thanksgiving

 Imperial Court de San Diego raises spirits to those who may not have anyone during the holidays.

Every year the Imperial Court de San Diego helps to feed the community during the holidays and this year was no exception. On Thursday both The Court and The San Diego LGBT Community Center (The Center) hosted the 29th Annual Scott Carlson Thanksgiving Community Dinner & Food Drive.
