The variety of events for LGBT people and their allies in San Diego seems to grow each week especially during June and July when the city prepares for its Pride festivities. This week it's time to celebrate the limitless talent of local drag queens who have entertained San Diego for decades.

The month is half-over and already the kick-off celebrations are starting for San Diego Pride. From camping to Overdrive, to Top of the Bay, the energy is building up which will lead us into July. Until then, take a look at what there is to do in the community this week. There is something for everyone.

Thanks to Memorial Day Weekend it was a short news week but there was still a lot to report when it came to the community especially the news that Pride of Hillcrest Block Party is returning, and the naming of San Diego Pride music festival stage headliners. 

She Fest headliner will be musical virtuoso Car Astor

She Fest headliner will be musical virtuoso Car Astor.

San Diego Pride is showcasing their A-list talent line-up for Pride early in July by announcing Car Astor as their headliner for She Fest which takes place on July 6. 

She Fest is an annual event that celebrates all women artistically and politically while being all-inclusive with their engagement in the LGBT community and their allies. 

Hillcrest Pride Block Party is a massive, free kick-off to San Diego Pride

Get ready San Diego, the Pride of Hillcrest Block Party is back, and this year it's a free event. The celebration is presented by San Diego County Credit Union (SDCCU), Miller/Coors and Effen Vodka. This is an inclusive event which adheres to this year's theme: “Free to be you.”

Nothing can undo the hate, death, or violence any of our communities have faced over the generations, but we can stand shoulder to shoulder, ready to take action in our shared intersectional struggles as we all engage in our grand Legacy of Liberation.

My father, a devout Catholic man from Mexico, and my mother, a Jewish woman raised by Orthodox parents whose family left Russia and Austria respectively to escape persecution and death, each explained to me as a young person the discrimination I would face because my life encompassed these inherited identities.

Hillcrest is complete once again as repairs have been made to the Pride flag after it was vandalized two months ago. Plus trans lives are celebrated this week and Euphoria returns to Rich's. San Diego Pride: "Build Power, Not Walls"

Some may wish to focus on building walls, but we at Pride are looking to build upon our queer brilliance through international, intersectional, intergenerational mentorship.

At the Stonewall Riots, our community unleashed our strength, fought back against societal and institutional violence, and then continued honoring that moment year after year, building a global movement on that rebellious foundation.
