Personally, being gay in the military had zero affect on my ability to perform my duties or others around me to perform theirs. However, this never prevented those intent on removing homosexuality from the Marine Corps, from attempting to root out those of us that served.
What if leaders at UCSD and around the state stopped kicking the problems of class and racial inequities down the road, stopped exclaiming “Done” to every short-term demand, and stopped faking it in matters of equity, campus climate and quality education?
Yes, television executives are to be applauded for adding LGBT characters to their shows. But they need to make those characters more human, and less stereotypical, so the straight world can see us for the rich, vibrant community that we are.
