LGBT prisoner safety bill passes crucial assembly committee

The California State Assembly Committee on Public Safety yesterday passed the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Prisoner Safety Act, in a 6-0 vote. Sponsored by Equality California and introduced by Assemblymember Tom Ammiano (D-San Francisco), the bill is designed to prevent violence against LGBT people in the state prison system.

The Center appologizes for cameras having been turned away from Town Hall meeting

On January 10, community members involved with the organization of that night's Town Hall meeting prohibited Channel 10 News from entering the meeting, saying cameras would not be permitted to film the forum because The Center prohibited such an action. The Center, however, says that their policies were misinterpreted.

Prop. 8 Trial Update

The case challenging California's controversial Proposition 8 began this morning. The U.S. Supreme Court, however, has overruled Judge Walker's previous decision to allow coverage of the trial on YouTube.

300 march on Hyatt as history convention crosses gay picket line

Close to 300 people staged a raucous demonstration at the Manchester Grand Hyatt hotel in San Diego on Jan. 9, to protest the American Historical Association's decision to go ahead with its annual meeting there rather than honor the gay boycott of the hotel.
