2023 Critics Choice Awards: Best Sequences And Most Remarkable Speeches
The 28th Annual Critics Choice Awards were presented to all the winners on Sunday and here’s a quick highlight of the best awards and the most memorable speeches delivered by the winners at the show.
The show host for the evening was the comedian, writer, TV Host, and producer Chelsea Handler who had her own quips to deliver.
Addressing the event Chelsea said that it was an honor to be there after everything that we’ve all been through together over the past few years and went on to mention the press tour of ‘Dont Worry Darling’ along with the global pandemics of Covid and Monkeypox.
Highlights Of The Awards And Memorable Speeches
“Everything Everywhere All At Once” bagged the best winning picture award of the night, surpassing the likes of “Avatar: The Way of Water”, “Top Gun: Maverick”, “Babylon”, “The Banshees of Inisherin”, “Women Talking”, “RRR”, “Tár”, “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery”, “The Fabelmans”, and “Elvis”.
The filmmaking duo Daniel Kwan and Danie Scheinert won the categories for best original screenplay and best director for Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Daniel Kwan help up the winner-mentioned envelope to the screen to reassure everyone that they’d won as Scheinert quipped that it wasn’t a mistake.
Scheinert addressed all their fellow nominees during his speech and thanked all the storytellers and filmmakers for their works that have inspired him and changed his life.
Kwan thanked his mother who he holds as the inspiration for Evelyn Wang that was played in the film by Michelle Yeoh who he says was the first to give him the idea that he could become a director.
Kwan then made fun of the Asian-parent stereotypes claiming that his mother is probably the first Asian-American immigrant mother ever to encourage their kid to go to film school.
The award for best actor was bagged by Brendan Fraser for his role in “The Whale”. An emotionally overwhelmed Brendan remarked in his acceptance speech that his movie takes on the aspects revolving around love, redemption, and finding positivity amidst the chaos.
He thanked his co-stars Hong Chau, Sadie Sink, Ty Simpkins, and director Darren Aronofsky who he claimed showed him the path to reach where he needed to be.
The best actress award went to Cate Blanchett for her performance in the Tár. Cate said in her acceptance speech that it was highly arbitrary for her to win the prize considering many of the extraordinary performances displayed by many women this year.
She specifically mentioned Tang Wei and Andrea Riseborough, stars of Decision to Leave and To Leslie, respectively, neither of whom made it to the nominations list.
After her humble tribute to fellow actors, Cate then made the inspirational remark while thanking writer/director Todd Field that you can only win awards like this if the director demands something impossible or something you are terrified of doing.
Angela Bassett took home the award for best supporting actress for her performance in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
The award was presented to her by last year’s best-supporting actor winner Troy Kotsure who was the first deaf actor to win the award which was given for his performance in CODA.
Angela said she was proud of the work they did with Black Panther and now with Wakanda Forever.
She took the opportunity to encourage the black community by reminding them that they can create and lead billion-dollar box-office successes too like the others.

The Indian blockbuster RRR was the surprise winner of the best foreign language film category. The film won’t be making the Academy Awards list as India submitted the Last Film Show instead (which was also shortlisted for the Academy Award).
The song “Naatu Naatu” from this movie bagged the award for the best original song as well.
In his acceptance speech Director, S.S. Rajamouli thanked the women in his life beginning with his mother who encouraged him to read comics and storybooks and nurtured his creativity. He also thanked his wife who is a costume designer, and according to him “designer of my life”.
The best-animated feature award was won by Guillermo del Toro for his stop-motion adaptation of Pinocchio for Netflix. After dedicating the award to James Cameron, Guillermo took the opportunity to make the important point that animation is not a genre for kids it is a medium for tackling bigger themes.
