Who Is MODOK Corey Stoll's Return In Ant-Man 3 Explained

The trailer for the new Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has been released, and it includes the first appearance of MODOK in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The teaser also includes glimpses of Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror, Kathryn Newton in a new suit, and a reference to the upcoming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

One of the most surprising moments in the trailer is the reveal that the giant floating head of MODOK is actually Corey Stoll’s character, Darren Cross, who was believed to have died at the end of the first Ant-Man movie. This has left fans wondering about the significance of Cross’ return in the new film.

The First Appearance Of Correy Stoll In The Marvel Cinematic Universe

Correy Stoll first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Darren Cross, eventually becoming the Yellowjacket in the film Ant-Man. By the end of the movie, it appears that Cross is killed when he is shrunk down to a very small size due to Scott Lang’s actions. However, it appears that Cross has not actually died and will return in the upcoming film Quantumania.

Who Is MODOK Corey Stoll's Return In Ant-Man 3 Explained

It is unclear what happened to him in the time since Ant-Man and how he will fit into the plot of Quantumania. It is possible that time works differently in the Quantum Realm, meaning Cross could have been there for a varying amount of time. Additionally, given the multiverse focus of the MCU, it is possible that this Darren Cross is a variant of the character and not the same one that Scott faced in Ant-Man.

It is unknown whether Cross will be on Kang’s side or against him, or if Scott will need to team up with an old enemy against a common foe. The source material does not provide any further insight into what to expect from Cross’s role in Quantumania.

Fans have been hoping to see MODOK in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a while now, but the version that appears in the movies will be different from the source material. In the comics, MODOK is a character named George Tarleton, but in the MCU, he will be portrayed as Darren Cross. This is a unique change for Marvel Studios and it is difficult to predict how the character will be portrayed.

Some fans may be disappointed by this change, but the character of MODOK is difficult to bring to life on screen, so this alteration may have been necessary for Marvel to feel comfortable including him in the movies.

In fact, there is already a reference to MODOK in the fifth episode of the show “Loki,” when a Yellowjack helmet can be seen in the background. This turned out to be a direct reference to MODOK’s future appearance in the MCU.
