Little Italy's Porto Vista Hotel is celebrating Memorial Day Weekend with a special kick-off at "Top of the Bay" on Friday, May 24.

Close to all the fun downtown has to offer, its place in the heart of Little Italy makes Porto Vista easily accessible to San Diego's signature activities such as the Harbor museums, Balboa Park, and the many beaches Southern California is famous for.

It was a big news week both locally and globally. First, one of three naval vessels honoring historic civil rights leaders began construction in San Diego with the USNS John Lewis. The next ship on the assembly line will the USNS Harvey Milk.

On Friday Taiwan became the first Asian state to legalize same-sex marriage.

We are getting closer to summer and that means closer to Pride. And what would Pride be without a pool party? This week SDPIX publisher Johnathan Hale is having the first one of the season with DJ Dirty Kurty to benefit the Trevor Project. Also this week is the annual Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast which celebrates those LGBT business owners and allies who make a difference every day.

Here is what's up to this week in "Out & About."

It's time to celebrate those people, whoever they may be, we call mom. Mother's Day is this Sunday and there is plenty to do to show our maternal figures that we love them.

But there's also a lot to do the week leading up to their special day. From an EDM party at Flicks, to athletes putting on a special drag show at Rich's, there's never a dull moment.

The city was still in shock this week after the Sunday morning shooting in a San Diego County synagogue.

The attack left one person dead and several others injured.

This crime sparked concern by City Commissioner Nicole Murray Ramirez who started a campaign to raise money for armed guards to patrol The San Diego LGBT Community Center.
